My StoryFrom precision manufacturing to closed loop
I grew up in a small town in Western New York. After middle school I was homeschooled, then went on to vocational training in computers, CNC machining, manufacturing and automation, and I specialized in manufacturing automation, setting up production lines to run on their own. That background in precision, process and machinery shaped everything I do today.
In the early 2010s, between manufacturing jobs, I became fascinated with traditional hash-making: ice water bubble hash, dry sift and Moroccan-style techniques. By the mid-2010s I was exploring rosin pressing as the craft moved toward cleaner, more controlled methods.
Then the industry changed. Technology from pharmaceutical, food and chemical manufacturing arrived and opened the age of closed-loop extraction, crystallization, wiped film distillation, and true large-scale manufacturing, with quality control and safety at the center.
To this day, extractors like me keep pushing to evolve the craft and raise the bar for the whole industry. That brings us to today.
