Extraction Methods

Post-Processing (Purging, Vacuum Ovens, Decarb)

My hands-on work
Post-processing of extracts is a core part of my role, from purging to finished product.

After extraction, crude oil still holds residual solvent and needs its final texture and consistency set. Post-processing turns raw extract into a finished, compliant product.

Purging

Residual hydrocarbon solvent is removed with gentle heat under vacuum. Temperature and time are balanced: too hot or too long and terpenes are lost or the product darkens, too little and residual solvent can fail lab testing. Finished products are tested by an accredited third-party lab before release.

Vacuum ovens

Vacuum ovens hold the extract on trays or parchment at controlled temperatures under deep vacuum, lowering the boiling point of the solvents. Purge style shapes the outcome: undisturbed purges keep shatter glassy, while whipping or agitation gives badder and budder.

Decarboxylation

Raw cannabis compounds exist mostly as acids (THCa, CBDa). Heating converts them to their neutral forms (THC, CBD) and releases CO₂. Decarb is a standard step before distillation, and for products meant to be active without further heating.

Finishing

Homogenization, texture work, packaging under cool, low-oxygen conditions, and batch records that tie each lot to its test results (COA).
